National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP)

ChestRad is purpose built to partner with you.

The NLCSP provides eligible Australians with low-dose CT scans to detect lung cancer early, before symptoms appear. All scans under the program are bulk billed, with no out-of-pocket cost. ChestRad is purpose-built for lung cancer screening, drawing on 25 years of clinical experience and scientific research in the field. Our specialist expertise supports accurate assessment, clear reporting and appropriate follow-up.

Already had screening elsewhere?

You can have your follow-up scans at ChestRad, regardless of where your previous scans were performed. We arrange retrieval of previous images and reports for comparison—a routine process for all patients at ChestRad. The need to compare scans does not require you to remain with the same provider. Your choice should be informed by your GPs recommendation.

How does it work?

  • See your GP to confirm eligibility and discuss whether screening is right for you.
  • Get a referral. Your GP arranges your low-dose CT referral and, if you are new to the program, enrolment in the National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR).
  • Book your scan at ChestRad. The scan is quick and requires no injections. Let us know where any previous chest scans were performed.
  • Discuss your results with your GP. ChestRad sends your report to your referring healthcare provider and the NCSR, which provides next-step information and screening reminders.

Information for referrers

Please state that the “patient meets NLCSP eligibility criteria” and include relevant clinical details (e.g asymptomatic, >30 pack year, no personal history of lung cancer) and any previous screening location.

The Australian Government NLCSP referral form is available in Best Practice and Medical Director.

ChestRad provides structured reports aligned with national guidelines, with clear recommendations for follow-up.
